Mexican firm BGBG – Bello, Gallardo, Bonequi y García, SC has boosted its transactional and projects department by hiring a former partner of Elite outfit González Calvillo, SC, which has recently elected a new executive committee.
Juan Manuel Sancho Rodrigo, 48, joined BGBG at the start of the month, taking its partner count to 15. He will head his new firm’s transactional and projects group.
With over 25 years of experience in M&A, banking, project finance and restructuring transactions, Sancho has provided counsel to both domestic and foreign clients. He spent 15 years as partner at González Calvillo, but left the firm in December. Last year, Sancho led a team of González Calvillo lawyers as they advised Spanish business technology group Atento in a US$500 million bond offering.
He also had a one-year stint as a foreign associate at US law firm Sidley Austin LLP and spent six years as an associate at Highly Recommended Mexican outfit Santamarina y Steta.
A spokesperson from González Calvillo wished Sancho the best in his future endeavours.
Miguel Guerra, BGBG’s banking head, says the firm expects to see corporate restructuring and reorganisations in 2022, as well as an increase in cross-border transactions. Guerra believes that this development will occur alongside an uptick in project financing transactions, where Sancho will work closely with the firm’s banking and finance and regulatory practices.
BGBG, which comes Recommended for its transactional offering, has offices in both Mexico City and Querétaro. At the end of last year, the firm promoted banking and finance associate Javier Pérez Moreno to partner.
