April 25, 2020 / COVID-19 / Privacy and Personal Data Protection
The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information, and Protection of Personal Data (INAI) is committed to ensure access to information and data protection rights to the population during this health emergency. Therefore, as of today, INAI will begin to meet weekly and virtually to resolve review appeals. In addition, it will submit reports regarding the activities carried out in different areas of the Institute.
In this regard, it is important to recall that on May 18, the agreement approved by the Plenary Meeting on April 30 came into effect, in which it was determined to resume the procedural deadlines for responding to review applications and appeals by the obligated persons that remain in operation during the contingency.
Francisco Javier Acuña Llamas, Commission President of INAI, mentioned that the decision of the Plenary Meeting to resume the procedural deadlines is due to the fact that most of the applications are about pandemic information. Therefore, it is urgent that the obligated persons of the health sector provide timely responses through electronic and digital media for the public officers.
Nowadays, 126 review appeals have been resolved: 76 for access to public information and 50 for personal data protection related to obligated persons with essential activities.
